As most people twitter is a more common part of everyone’s life these days and having the right tools for the job always make for a better and faster experience all while your at work, school or just on the go.
This is my favorite twitter app so far. This app has NO capabilities for multiple account management.
Design:
Out of all the Twitter apps I have used Twicca has been the easiest UI on the eyes. I’m a huge fan of the darker themes and find its easier on the eyes when reading on a smaller screen like the G1 or a myTouch3G (MT3G). One of the coolest functions of this app is the ability to ‘Set Color Labels’ for groups of people in your Twitter feed by selecting them and assigning one of seven colors (one being no color) to apply to that person/group. You are also able to change the color labels text to read any title, like I use the green label for Android related people that I follow. Another great funtion that I have not seen on another Twitter app is being able to select multiple tweets and batch label, reply or add to my favorites. This is great for when you want to reply to multiple people and without having to do a lot of typing.
Over all the interface is amazing and simple at the same time!
Rating: 5 / 5
I have to say that this app is fully optimized for the G1/MT3G, its simple UI allows for the updating of your time lines to zip by with out any hesitation to getting the info that you truly want in the time that you want it. When I first got this app there was no widget, now there is a wonderful 1×4 bar that displays shortcuts to update your status, home timeline, mentions, direct messages and and searches. Allowing you to jump to any point of the app you want to be in in a few moments.
Rating: 5 / 5
Extras:
When you launch the app and hit the ‘menu’ button on your device one of the options is ‘retweets’. This option allows you to view (in a timeline) all the retweets people have shared with you and all the retweets you have shared with others.
SEESMIC
I’ve used this app the most before my switch to Twicca and was recommending it left and right to my android comrades. This app has capabilities for multiple account management.
Design:
This UI is based off the standard Tab UI in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) so its fast and clean with little to no hesitation to get whatever task you need accomplished. The UI has been changed color wise to match the scheme of Seesmics Red, Grey and Black. I feel they have a great app and now they need to beef up the look of the UI in order to keep the appeal of their fan base.
Rating: 4 / 5
Performance:
This app flies, its very fast and very smooth with scrolling. It does whet you need when you need and has fast user switching when using multiple account management.
Rating: 5 / 5
HootSuite / SwiftApp
Let me just preface this by saying that is complete rewrite of the the SwiftApp. Here is a tweet from Swift themselves. I also spoke with Sebastian Delmont, @sd and he explained the
how and why the transformation happened:
“They (HootSuite) approached me last year, interested in an android version of their app. I was unsure about the future of swift. With all the heavyweight newcomers, having a real company behind the app was becoming more and more important. So we negotiated quickly and I started to work on a full rewrite.â€
This app also has capabilities for multiple account management.
Design:
The UI has a very iPhone feel to it. They use bright colors and cut transitions, its plain and not as shnazzy as Swift was. I love that you can swipe from left to right to get to the next timeline or use the iPhone like button at the top left. With links, you have the option of opening them inside of Hootsuite witch can be nice if your just glancing at a picture or open them in the full browser.
Rating: 2 / 5
Performance:
This app has average speed loading time for timlines, the transitions took a tad longer then you would hoped for as well. It doesn’t scroll well for me and frustrates me more then anything. This app really needs to be optimized for touch better.
Rating: 2 / 5
Extras:
There were none in the lite version and I didn’t buy the full one, yet.
So all in all if your looking for speed and effortless beauty then Twicca is the app, but if your looking for Multiple accounts and simple design Seesmic does the job. But dont reject HootSuite, @sd had done a great job with Swift and I feel there might be some amazing things to come with future releases of HootSuite!
